There are two requirements for running SwiftSearch: one, you need to use it with admin priviliges, and two, you need to use it on NTFS-formatted drives. Meet these requirements and you will uncover that SwiftSearch works brilliantly. This handy tool, without needing to be installed and without needing to index anything, will find whatever you want it to find at a lightning pace.

To get started with SwiftSearch, you need to download a lightweight executable (less than 1Mb in size as a matter of fact) and run it. As mentioned above, SwiftSearch does not have to be installed. So just run the executable and you’ll be able to start using the application. Of course, this means that SwiftSearch is portable – feel free to put it on a USB stick, for example, and take it with you.

At the top of the interface there’s a box that you can use to enter your query, a dropdown menu to choose one of your drives, and a button for launching the search process. The search results will be presented as a list in the main panel right underneath. It is, in all fairness, such a simple interface that it will take you very little time to get accustomed with SwiftSearch.

Speaking about very little time, you will be impressed with this application’s search speed. Just enter the name of the file you want to find, initiate the search process, and in a blink SwiftSearch will provide a list of results. Check out the Using Regular Expression entry in the Help menu – it provides useful information on how to use wildcards and regular expressions to find files.

SwiftSearch is a free application.

Lightning fast searches, a simple interface, no need to install it, and all for the great price of free. I don’t see what’s not to like about SwiftSearch.

Pros

SwiftSearch is portable; it does not have to be installed. The interface is very, very simple. Without needing to index your drives, SwiftSearch performs searches at a lightning fast pace. SwiftSearch is free.

Cons

You need admin privileges to use SwiftSearch; it works only with NTFS drives.
